Episcopal and Methodist Churches

These are churches which come out of the English Reformation.  In the 16th century, the Church of England (Anglican Church) separated from the Roman Catholic Church.  However, it retained some of the flavor of its Catholic roots but was also influenced by Reformed theology. Retaining a hierarchical system of bishops and dioceses, its influence in other parts of the British Empire resulted in other Episcopal Churches.

In the 18th century, John Wesley and others led a Pietist revival in England resulting in the beginning of Methodism.  Methodists and Wesleyan Churches eventually separated from their Episcopal parent churches.
