Mobility - Entrance





[02PA0200] Entrance to the building is accessible to people who use wheelchairs and others who cannot walk up and down steps. Choose the method of accessibility.

Help: If uncertain about entrance accessibility, select "Ground level" to continue.
Subsequent questions will clarify additional criteria for entrance accessibility. This question only pertains to the method of building entry. A later question will address accessibility within the building.

    [02PA0211] Ground level.  Accessible entrances meet all of the following criteria:
            ____ [02211] Accessible from accessible parking spaces via a smooth path at least 3 feet wide at a grade of no more than 1:12 (for 1 in. of rise, 12 in. of length).

            ____ [02212] There is clear signage indicating the accessible entrance.  (If a main public entrance is not accessible, there should be a clear sign pointing to the accessible entrance.)

            ____ [02253] There is at least a 5 foot level platform at the entry door.

            ____ [02254] The doorway entrance into the building is at least 3 feet wide.

            ____ [02255] Doorway has a level threshold of no more than ½ inch.

    [02PA0212] A ramp is provided that meets the following criteria:

            ____ [02212] There is clear signage indicating the accessible entrance.  (If a main public entrance is not accessible, there should be a clear sign pointing to the accessible entrance.)

            ____ [02231] Elevator or lift is certified by the company for intended use.

            ____ [02232] Elevator or lift is able to be easily used by standing or wheelchair user.

            ____ [02233] Elevator or lift is large enough to accommodate a wheelchair (preferably, along with a standing attendant). 

            ____ [02234] Elevator or lift is able to bear the weight of a power wheelchair with person in it.

            ____ [02253] There is at least a 5 foot level platform at the entry door.

            ____ [02254] The doorway entrance into the building is at least 3 feet wide.

            ____ [02255] Doorway has a level threshold of no more than ½ inch.

  • ____ [02204]  No.  Stairs or other barriers are present at all entrances.
Doors

____ [02PA0220] What type(s) of doors are provided at entrances?  (Automatic doors are recommended wherever possible since they provide the greatest amount of independence to the most people.  Manual doors can also be made more accessible.)

Help:   Select the method(s) of accessibility at the accessible entrances to the building. Then answer the questions that follow for further accessibility criteria.

             [02PA0221]  Manual doors should meet the following criteria:

            ____ [02261] Able to be opened by a wheelchair user without forcing the wheelchair off of the surrounding level surface.

            ____ [02262] Have a handle easy to grasp with one hand without the need for tight grasping, pinching, or twisting wrist.

            ____ [02263] Easy to open with moderate strength

            ____ [02264] (Highly recommended) Have an usher or greeter stationed at the door to help persons with mobility challenges.

  • ____ [02270]  Automatic doors
            [02PA0222]  Automatic doors should meet the following criteria:

            ____ [02271] Marked with the universal wheelchair access symbol and in good operating condition.

            ____ [02272] Plainly visible push buttons at comfortable height for person in a wheelchair.       

            ____ [02273] Buttons at sufficient distance from any door that opens toward the user.

            ____ [02274] Doors open at moderate speed and give sufficient time for user to pass through.
